Upcoming Courses:

January 29, 2010 - Dr Elliot Mechanic - “Artistic Smile Design: Facial Changes through Dental Temporization”

Dentists are able to create facial changes realizing their patient’s dreams. As dentistry strives to think “outside the box,” new techniques and standards of care are created to alter facial appearance though cosmetic dental change.

The ability to create and modify provisional restorations simply and quickly has opened the door to predictable aesthetic dentistry. Unlike plastic surgery, dental temporization allows the patient to preview his or her new smile and then alter it as necessary for functional, esthetic and phonetic reasons. A well-made temporary restoration, the key to an aesthetic restoration, provides the lab with a blueprint for tooth length, width, thickness, arch form and position, midline cant, and occlusion. Once the patient has approved the temporary, the lab replicates it in porcelain using silicone templates. Techniques and the restorative process from impression taking to insertion of case will be addressed. (all crucial to the success of temporaries) will be thoroughly discussed.

Elliot Mechanic, BSc, D.D.S. practices esthetic dentistry in Montreal, Canada. He received his Bachelor of Science (1975) and Doctor of Dental Surgery (1979) degrees from McGill University. Dr Mechanic is the esthetic editor of Canada’s “Oral Health” dental journal and is on the editorial board of Dentistry Today. He also is the co-founder of the Canadian Academy for Esthetic Dentistry, Program coordinator of the University of Toronto Advanced Restorative Continuum, and is recognized as a leader in continuing dental education.
